Curiosity Runs World | Portrait Photography tips

sometimes little things can amaze us. one of my oldest portraits, I found from my backups. portrait photography is one of the best things. we learned something in every session.

I clicked this shot while traveling from Surat to Navsari. don't know I was having the camera and traveling by the local bus. this child was watching me for long. I was trying to capture the landscape from a bus window. which is not practically possible but thus I was trying. and this child was watching towards the camera's lens since long. I watched and turn my lens towards him and she was like ooooooooo what is that? and I clicked on this amazing portrait. slight photoshop and I got this amazing portrait.

BASIC tips for Portrait Photography according to me,

Framing and objectives :

Framing is a technique where by you draw attention to one element of an image by framing it with another element of the image. Framing gives an image depth and draws the eye to a point of interest in the image. Many people will avoid picking up a camera because they think they don’t have a Skills for photography. but I belive any one can do this thing if they know basics proper.

The purpose of properly composing images is to attract the viewer’s eye straight to the most important detail of the portrait—the subject’s face and more specifically, the eyes.

Light and exposure:

there are two important things to keep in mind for light. if artificial light is used it will be more directive. natural light will give their own look. when shooting outdoors, the consciousness of the direction of light is intrinsic. To achieve the best lighting, have the subject face the light source.

EYE catches EYE :

Focusing on the subject’s eyes using single point autofocus will enhance the frame for sure. but don't stop with that only. The subject’s eyes can direct the mood of the photo and play up that personality. expressions are also equally important here.

Background or Foreground :

When shooting an environmental portrait, be attentive to potential distractions caused by subtle background/foreground elements. The person in your portrait is the main point of interest – however sometimes when you place them into different contexts with different backgrounds you can dramatically alter the mood in a shot.

Camera Settings: Manual mode?

yes best one, you can modify each setting according to your lens, sensor, exposure and frame composition. don't go very high on iso. noisy portraits don't look too goo at sometimes. also see the white balance of your camera. and having the plan for post editing. I suggest go for raw mode as basic setting. It is very easy to get carried away with settings and gear. the best advice is to take one lens and on camera body on a shoot. The less gear, the easier it is to concentrate on every other aspect. People are not interested in seeing a technically perfect portrait. They want to see a creative portrait.
